Older Adult Fitness & Healthy Aging Programs
Specialized, gentle-but-effective fitness that helps you move well, age strong and stay independent โ in North Bay or online across Canada and the USA.
Older adult fitness is about far more than “slowing down gracefully” โ it is about staying strong, steady and independent so you can keep doing the things you love. Elena Tonietto’s healthy aging programs at NU-U Health & Fitness are designed specifically for adults 50, 60, 70 and beyond who want to rebuild strength, protect their balance and move through daily life with confidence. You can train in person in North Bay and the Nipissing District, or online across Canada and the USA from the comfort of home.
With over 20 years as a fitness professional and a specialization in older-adult and corrective training since 2006, Elena knows that no two bodies age the same way. Maybe you are recovering mobility after a quiet few years, managing stiff joints, worried about falls, or simply want to feel capable on the stairs, in the garden and on the trails. Every program starts where you are โ never where a generic class assumes you should be โ and progresses at a pace that feels safe and encouraging.
This is coaching and education for general wellness, not medical treatment. Elena works alongside the guidance of your physician to help you build functional strength, better posture and steadier balance so you can age on your own terms. Whatever your starting point, the goal is the same: move well, age strong, and live vibrant.

Who these healthy aging programs are for
These programs are built for older adults who want to stay active, capable and independent โ whether you are brand new to exercise or returning after a long break. If you have felt yourself losing strength, noticing your balance isn’t what it used to be, or worrying about a fall, this is a safe, supportive place to start. Many clients come to Elena after being told to “just keep moving” without any guidance on how.
You do not need to be fit, flexible or coordinated to begin โ that is exactly what the training builds. If you are entirely new to structured exercise, Elena often blends this with beginner-friendly fitness so the first steps feel achievable. Those managing stiffness or recovering movement after injury or surgery may also benefit from the corrective focus of functional strength and mobility work, always coordinated with your physician’s advice.
What a healthy aging session looks like
Every journey begins with a conversation about your goals, health history and any concerns โ from arthritis to blood pressure to a recent fall. From there, Elena designs a program around functional movements that carry directly into daily life: sitting and standing with ease, reaching overhead, stepping confidently, and catching yourself if you stumble. Sessions are unhurried, clearly cued and adaptable to how you feel that day.
A typical session weaves together gentle mobility, progressive strength work, and dedicated balance training. Because posture and a strong midsection underpin steadiness, many programs draw on posture, balance and core training, and for those who want a low-impact way to build control and stability, Elena may fold in elements of her private Pilates work. Nothing is one-size-fits-all โ the plan grows with you as you get stronger.

Can I do this online, or does it have to be in person?
Both. You can train in person in North Bay and the Nipissing District, or live online across Canada and the USA from home. Online sessions use a simple video setup, and Elena guides you through every movement in real time.
I haven't exercised in years โ is this suitable for a true beginner?
Absolutely. Most clients start exactly there. Every program begins with where you are today and progresses gently, so you never feel rushed or out of your depth. There is no fitness prerequisite to begin.
Do I need any special equipment or a gym?
Very little. For in-person sessions everything is provided. For online training, Elena will suggest simple items you likely already have โ a sturdy chair, a little space, and comfortable clothing โ and adapt the plan to what you own.
Is this program right for me if I have a health condition or past injury?
It may well be, and it is designed to be adaptable. This is wellness coaching, not medical care, so please check with your physician before starting. Once you have their okay, share your history with Elena and she will tailor everything to work safely around your needs.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule a session without charge. Elena will go over the full details during your free intro call so everything is clear from the start.
