Sylvotherapy & Forest Therapy
Forest therapy and mindful movement in nature to calm your mind, reset your nervous system, and reconnect with the outdoors.
Sylvotherapy โ often called forest therapy or forest bathing โ is the simple, science-friendly practice of slowing down and immersing your senses in a natural woodland setting. In North Bay and across the Nipissing District, you are surrounded by some of Ontario’s most beautiful trails, lakes, and pine forests, and this practice invites you to actually use them for your wellbeing rather than rush past them. Guided sessions with Elena blend gentle, mindful movement with unhurried time under the trees so your body and mind can settle.
This is not a hike and it is not a bootcamp. Sylvotherapy is a slow, intentional experience designed to help you downshift out of go-go-go mode, breathe more deeply, and give your nervous system a genuine reset. Whether you are feeling burned out, navigating a stressful season of life, or simply craving more calm and connection, forest therapy meets you exactly where you are โ no fitness level or outdoor experience required.
Elena offers these guided experiences in person throughout North Bay and the surrounding Nipissing forests, and shares forest-therapy education and simple at-home practices online across Canada and the USA for those who want to bring the benefits of nature into their everyday routine. Sessions are always framed as coaching, education, and general wellness โ a supportive way to feel better in your body and mind, never a medical treatment.

What Is Sylvotherapy?
Sylvotherapy is a guided nature practice rooted in the idea that spending calm, attentive time among trees can help you feel measurably better โ more relaxed, more present, and more restored. Instead of counting steps or chasing a summit, you move slowly, breathe deeply, and let your senses take the lead: the sound of wind in the pines, the scent of the forest floor, the changing light through the canopy. If you are curious about the roots of the practice, Elena’s article What Is Sylvotherapy? and her guide to the benefits of forest bathing are a great place to start.
The goal is simple: to help you shift out of stress and into rest. Many people leave a session feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded โ the same sense of ease you might notice after a truly relaxing walk in the woods, made intentional and guided.
Who Forest Therapy Is For
Forest therapy is for anyone carrying too much stress, too little rest, or a nagging sense of disconnection from the outdoors. It is especially supportive if you are feeling burned out, recovering from a demanding stretch at work, easing back into activity, or simply looking for a gentle, restorative alternative to high-intensity training. Because it is low-impact and self-paced, it suits a wide range of ages and abilities, and it pairs beautifully with Elena’s healthy-aging coaching for those who want to stay well and active as they get older.
If you love the outdoors but want more than a fitness session, sylvotherapy complements Elena’s outdoor fitness programs and longer wellness retreats, giving you a calm, mindful counterpoint to more energetic training. As always, if you have a health condition, please check with your physician before starting any new activity.
What a Session Looks Like
A typical sylvotherapy session unfolds slowly over one to three hours, depending on the format. Elena welcomes you at a chosen trailhead in North Bay or the Nipissing District, sets a relaxed intention for your time together, and then guides you through a series of gentle sensory invitations and mindful-movement moments โ pausing to notice, breathe, stretch, and simply be. There is no pressure to perform and nothing to keep up with.
Sessions can be private and personal, shared in a small group, or expanded into a half-day retreat experience with more time to unwind and reflect. Elena adapts the pace, terrain, and length to your comfort and the Ontario season, so whether it is a crisp autumn afternoon or a bright winter morning, your experience feels safe, supportive, and restorative.
Elena's Approach in the Nipissing Forests
Elena grew up in the mountains of Romania, where she learned a healthy lifestyle and a deep love of nature from her parents โ and that connection to the outdoors has shaped her work ever since. A fitness professional since 2004 and founder of NU-U Health & Fitness since 2008, she is also a trained sylvotherapy (forest therapy) practitioner, an active trail runner and hiker, and a lifelong student of how movement and nature support wellbeing.
Her approach is warm, unhurried, and grounded in real outdoor experience. She knows the trails and forests of North Bay intimately and designs each session to feel welcoming rather than intimidating. The focus is always on helping you feel more calm, capable, and connected โ general wellness and coaching, never medical treatment or clinical promises.
