Pilates Classes (In Studio & Online)
Strengthen your core, improve your posture, and move with confidence โ in our North Bay studio or online, wherever you are.
Pilates classes are one of the most effective ways to build deep core strength, improve posture, and move through daily life with more ease โ and at NU-U Health & Fitness, you can take them in person in North Bay, Ontario, or online across Canada and the USA. Whether you are brand new to the mat or returning after years away, every class meets you where you are and helps you build a stronger, more mobile body.
Founded by Elena Tonietto, a certified Pilates instructor since 2007, NU-U Pilates focuses on control, breath, and precise, mindful movement rather than speed or strain. You will learn to engage the muscles that stabilize your spine, protect your joints, and support everything else you do โ from lifting groceries to trail running through an Ontario summer.
Our in-studio classes in North Bay keep group sizes small so you always get personal attention, while our online membership lets you follow along from your living room, wherever winter finds you. However you join, the goal is the same: to help you move well, age strong, and live vibrant.

Who These Pilates Classes Are For
NU-U Pilates classes are designed for real people with real lives โ not just seasoned athletes. They suit beginners who have never touched a mat, active adults who want to move better, and anyone looking to rebuild strength gently after a break, a desk-bound stretch, or the natural changes that come with age. If you are completely new, you might start with our beginner-friendly guide to Pilates before your first session.
Pilates is especially valuable if you sit for long hours, notice your posture slipping, or want a low-impact way to protect your back and joints. It pairs beautifully with our posture, balance and core work and supports anyone focused on healthy aging who wants to stay steady, capable, and independent for decades to come.
What a NU-U Pilates Session Looks Like
Every class begins with breath and alignment, then moves through a flowing sequence of exercises that challenge your core, hips, spine, and shoulders in a controlled, deliberate way. You will use your own body weight along with props like resistance bands, small weights, magic circles, and mats โ no intimidating machines required. Elena cues each movement clearly and offers modifications so you can make an exercise gentler or more demanding depending on how your body feels that day.
Classes typically run 45 to 60 minutes. In studio, group sizes stay small so you receive hands-on guidance and real-time corrections. Online, you follow the same expert instruction through clear, well-paced video, with cues you can trust even without a coach in the room. If you want fully individualized attention, private Pilates sessions let Elena tailor every movement to your goals and any limitations.
The Benefits of Pilates for Strength, Posture and Mobility
Consistent Pilates classes build the kind of strength that shows up everywhere in daily life โ a steadier core, a taller posture, more open hips, and joints that move freely. Because the method emphasizes control and alignment over momentum, it is remarkably low-impact, which makes it a smart complement to higher-intensity training or a standalone practice on its own.
Over time, students often notice less back and neck tension, better balance, and a new awareness of how they hold and move their bodies. Those gains carry directly into functional strength and mobility for everything from gardening to hiking Ontario’s trails. Pilates is not about punishing workouts; it is about moving with intention so your body feels better, day after day. Always check with your physician before beginning a new exercise program, especially if you are managing an injury or health condition.

Group drop-in classes are $18โ25 CAD. Four-week sessions run $75โ95 for once a week or $135โ185 for twice a week, and unlimited monthly access is $175โ225. Prefer to train from home? What is the difference between in-studio and online classes?
In-studio classes in North Bay give you hands-on corrections, small-group energy, and props provided on site. Online classes deliver the same expert instruction through clear video you can follow from anywhere in Canada or the USA โ ideal if you travel, live outside North Bay, or prefer the comfort of home. Many students happily mix both.
I have never done Pilates โ can I still join?
Absolutely. Our classes welcome complete beginners, and Elena offers modifications for every movement so you can work at your own pace. If you would like to prepare, start with our beginner's guide to Pilates, then simply show up ready to learn.
What should I bring and wear to a class?
Wear comfortable, fitted clothing you can move in and bring a water bottle. In studio we provide mats and props; for online classes, a mat and a little floor space are all you need. Grip socks are optional but nice to have.
Is Pilates right for me if I am older or managing an injury?
Pilates is one of the most joint-friendly ways to build strength and balance, and Elena specializes in fitness for older adults. That said, always check with your physician before starting a new program, and let us know about any injuries so we can adapt your classes safely.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a class so we can offer the spot to someone else. Reach out by phone, email, or WhatsApp and we will help you find another time that works.
